Common Fence Music Membership Program News

Dear Roots Music Lovers,

Here We Go Again!  Common Fence Music’s Membership Program for the 22nd season is official! Members can once again take advantage of discounted tickets and the ability to lock in their future show choices.  And a special thanks from the board to the folk music fans who “took the chance” on a schedule brimming with Amazing Unknowns, and became CFM members during our 21st year!

CFM remains the best choice for folk and roots music entertainment in the Southeastern New England area.  The CFPIA Hall on Anthony Road in Portsmouth is the original home of CFM’s Picnic Series and the site for most performances. These shows are especially designed to encourage the sharing of a picnic dinner (the folk tailgate) before the show.  The CFPIA location is easy to get to, and offers free parking to concertgoers.  This coming season, the Picnic Series features some great names from the past as well as some new acts that can’t wait to hop onto the Gold Lame Stage.  Here are three that you will be sure to enjoy:  Garnet Rogers returns to sing songs of the hard seagoing life of the Canadian maritime region. Another Canadian, the acclaimed singer-songwriter Ariana Gillis is returning. And Canadian Jon Brooks makes his first appearance, along with Seth Glier, Lindsay Lou & the Flatbellys, Rod Picott and many more. Finally, the Wholesale Klezmer Band’s songs provide a joyful view of 19th century Jewish life in Europe.

Once again our musical director, Tom Perrotti, has renewed CFM’s commitment to regional and local talent.  First, he is bringing back A Gathering of Fiddlers and Fishermen for the 16th Season – always packed with regional talent.  In addition, Tom has filled the Horn of Plenty Music with Will Houlihan’s Haunt the House, Bob Kendall, and The Rusty Pickup String Band and scheduled The Gnomes to take a Ride on the CFM Roots Caboose in the spring of 2015.  And we're working on a tasty ending to the 22nd season with A Baker’s Dozen – Savory & Sweet. If you like “Fiddlers and Fishermen,” you’ll like A Baker’s Dozen.

What are the changes in the CFM Membership Program?  First, the basic membership idea has not changed:  You receive discounted tickets for an annual membership fee.  This year’s fee is $60 and you will be getting much more entertainment for your CFM dollar.  Members can select four (4) tickets from three lists:  Two tickets from Picnic Series concerts that are priced $20- $22, one $18 ticket, and one $15 ticket.  In addition, members who join before September 27, 2014 pay only $55 for their four tickets. That’s $13.75 per ticket!

As always, members have the opportunity to purchase tickets at the advance ticket price from our entire line-up, including Fiddlers & Fishermen #16, regional favorite Cheryl Wheeler, The Foghorn Stringband, one of the nation’s finest string bands, and the legendary Aine Minogue and her Winter Solstice performance. And Lori McKenna, who is returning by popular demand. These shows typically sell out in advance, so get your tickets when you apply for membership.  Additional savings: ticket prices at the door will usually be $3 higher than the advance ticket price.

Please download and fill out the application form, indicating the number of memberships, the concert(s) you wish to attend, and the number of tickets for each concert. Please mail the completed form and your check or money order to the address indicated.  And please let family members and friends know about this opportunity.

On behalf of the Board of Directors, I hope you choose to renew or become a new CFM member. Your membership is a vote of support for the CFM mission to bring underexposed folk and roots musicians to our area for our collective enjoyment!

Sincerely,

Ted Czech, CFM President
